Speculation is rising as to whether or not the fearless leader in city hall, Searcy Mayor Belinda Laforce, will seek a third term. The mayor is facing a daunting “non-partisan” yet registered Democrat opponent, David Morris, as well as conservative Kyle Reeves.
Following Morris’ announcement, Laforce told the local paper that she and Morris had agreed that only one of them would seek the office. So where do things stand now?
Speculation is what it is, but all indications from Laforce’s actions signal that she has no interest in serving the people of Searcy any longer. After forcing a food tax down the throats of the citizens, the Council (under Laforce’s direction) has consequently increased water rates and restricted the people’s rights to petition their government down from 90 days to 30 days. They are vastly unpopular.
The A&P tax election on April 13th is a referendum on this mayor and this council. If the tax fails (which it will), Laforce will likely step aside.
