Missing Numbers from “Promoting Searcy” Financials

The group, “Promoting Searcy,” filed their first financial report with the state Ethics Commission.  Here are their records thus far:

$500 – Betty Mote 111 Water Oak
$100 – Marla Duncan 2936 West Country Club

$300 – Arkansas Democrat Gazette “Advertising”
$264 – Staples “Flyers”

Interesting lack of disclosure, considering the group has purchased several signs, fliers and have now launched an expensive website.  Granted, the website could have been purchased this month and therefore should not be included in the February financial report.  However, the signs and banners have been going up for weeks and were certainly purchased in the month of February.

Who is funding this group?  And why is it not being reported?

These are the same people who are telling us “we can trust them” to “do the right thing” with the A&P Tax revenue.  Feeling very trusting?

Looks like the the era of closed-door government (and disrespect for the law) continues in Searcy.

    Dear Arkansas Patriot,

I would like to supply you with a little more information that hopefully will answer your concerns about “Where’s the money coming from?”

You are correct in that “Promote Searcy” has purchased signs, banners, and brochures to help educate the citizens of Searcy about the A&P tax. They did not show up on our financials in February because “Promote Searcy” did not receive an invoice in February. Our March financial (due in April) will show our expenditures and also the contributions we have received to pay for them.

“Promote Searcy” is sworn in at the State Ethics Commission each month to verify our financials are correct and accurate.

I’m sorry you feel like we have a closed door government. Our meetings and financials are always open to the citizens of Searcy. We have made all our meetings open to the public and have been published in “The Daily Citizen” several times. We would like for anyone with concerns or questions to please attend any of our meetings. Our next scheduled meeting is Monday March 15th at 5:15pm at the Beebe-Capps First Community Bank Meeting room.

We have researched all the facts and are very confident that the information we are providing to the citizens of Searcy is correct. If you find something that you believe is incorrect, please let one of us know and we will go back and research it more. We are NOT in any way trying to mislead you or the citizens of Searcy.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

    Thank You,
    Danny Bennett
