94% of White County Voters Oppose Structure of Proposed Bypass Tax Ordinance
Voters Reject Effort to Extract Excess Funds From Economy
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 10, 2011
Searcy, AR – Citizens for Responsible Taxation, a watchdog group in White County that formed to oppose the county tax increase proposal, has released more results from their August 4th poll.
The survey had over 700 highly likely voter respondents. When asked if they thought the bypass tax should bring in more money than is needed to build the bypass:
64% of respondents said “no, we shouldn’t raise any taxes right now.”
30% said “no, the tax should only be enough to get the bypass built.”
Only 6% responded yes.
Chairman of CRT, Nicholas Horton, said the numbers confirm what he has been hearing from voters for weeks. “I launched this effort and formed Citizens for Responsible Taxation because I heard from the people of this county about this proposal. Not everyone is opposed to paying for a bypass, but they are against the government extracting approximately $18 million from the local economy when the cost of the bypass is only $6 million.”
“We believe the people of our county have made themselves clear on this issue. Unfortunately the politicians have not been listening. We need to make sure they hear us on September 13th.”
