The Searcy City Council held a special meeting tonight at city hall. I was unable to attend, but I am told that there were some hopeful signs at the meeting, indicating that the council may be willing to put in place some of the reforms that myself and others have been proposing for several years.
First, appears that the city is willing to propose a tax that will sunset & only be collected for a specific, expressed purpose. They also appeared willing to only exact the money necessary to complete the bypass & perhaps the “arterial roads.”
Also, the state highway department had a representative at the meeting who told the council & the full chamber of citizens that no money is due right now, only a commitment or a plan that shows that the city is serious about finding the funds.
There has been another special meeting called for this Thursday at 5:00 p.m.
This is all I can report right now. We should have some video coming & hopefully a guest post from one of the attendees as well.
